• Maryam (she/her) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with a Master’s degree in Counselling and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, with a specialization in Child Welfare. She is also a Registered Social Worker (RSW).

She has extensive experience working across private and public healthcare settings, as well as within the education system. Her professional background has provided her with a strong understanding of how to support individuals and families within complex systems of care.

  • Maryam believes that counselling can be a sacred and supportive space where clients explore their challenges and reconnect with their innate wisdom. She is attentive to how broader social, cultural, and geopolitical realities can shape people’s inner worlds and daily lives, and she works collaboratively with clients to move toward their goals in ways that feel meaningful and sustainable.

Her approach is grounded in intersectional, non-pathologizing, and anti-oppressive frameworks, recognizing that people’s struggles do not exist in isolation but are often shaped by the systems and contexts around them.

  • Maryam works alongside individuals and couples across all stages of life—particularly those in caregiving roles—as they navigate burnout, overwhelm, and life’s many transitions. She supports clients through a wide range of experiences, including depression, anxiety, grief and loss, parenting, trauma and relationship stress, work–life balance, ADHD, chronic pain, and aging-related concerns such as Alzheimer’s disease. Maryam’s approach is gentle, relational, and person-centered, creating a supportive space for reflection, healing, and growth as clients move through change.

  • Maryam is deeply committed to advancing equity in the lives of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) communities. She recognizes the systemic barriers and unique challenges faced by BIPOC folks and strives to create an inclusive, supportive, and empowering space for healing and growth. Maryam’s approach is rooted in cultural humility and sensitivity, ensuring that clients feel seen, heard, and valued.

Maryam is pleased to offer counselling services in both Farsi and English.

Book Session

My approach to therapy is integrative, drawing from a variety of evidence-based modalities to best meet the unique needs of my clients.

These include:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): is a therapeutic approach that uses bilateral eye or auditory movement, focused on relieving distress linked to traumatic memories.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
CBT helps people understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. It focuses on identifying unhelpful thinking patterns and developing practical strategies to shift them, supporting improved emotional regulation, coping, and day-to-day functioning.

  • Narrative Therapy: Encourages clients to explore and reframe the stories they tell about themselves, empowering them to create new narratives.

  • Solution-Focused Therapy: Helps clients identify strengths and resources to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

  • Existential Therapy: Explores meaning, purpose, and personal growth by addressing life’s inherent uncertainties and struggles.

  • Mindfulness: Combines techniques like mindful breathing and awareness to help clients stay grounded and reduce stress.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): is a therapeutic model that helps individuals identify and understand the various "parts" or aspects of themselves, each with its own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By fostering compassion and understanding between these parts, IFS facilitates healing, integration, and a deeper sense of self-awareness.
